Distribution Telemetry
Gascoyne Water Cooperative (GWC) undertook a major upgrade of their bore field and distribution infrastructure. The project titled Gascoyne Irrigation Scheme Augmentation and Modernisation (GISAM) had an outcome to ensure production capacity of the borefield would meet future requirements and system line pressure could be maintained so that all Members received an equitable water supply.
Aquamonix designed and supplied a Gatekeeper telemetry and control system that operates 34 pumps in the bore field and 189 distribution points.
Each of the 180 distribution points is managed using an Emflux Electromagnetic flowmeter, butterfly valve actuator and Neo telemetry device.
System parameters are recorded and reported in real time resulting in instant identification and alerting when the system is operating outside of expected parameters

SYSTEM CONTROL LOGIC
The bore field pump sequencing is managed to maintain the required pressure entering the distribution system network. Pumps are operated on demand and set to maintain a flowrate using PID control setpoints.
Every distribution point is ensured equitable water delivery by monitoring key pressure points and local flowrates in real time and responding to pressure drops in the pipeline. If low system pressure is detected in an area of the pipe network during times of increased demand, groups of delivery points will partially close their valves ensuring that back pressure is maintained and water is available for all members. Valves will automatically reopen to 100% when demand drops and supply is available.
